Possible Breaking Change

Customers are receiving updates about setting a preferred App Group Type. In the future, Remote App and Desktop Groups will no longer be functional or visible for users within a single host pool.

After testing, I found that configuring a preferred app group type (to desktop) results in remote apps no longer being available to users. This change is irreversible, so careful consideration is needed before making this configuration change. ⚠️

Potential impacts on #AVD environments if this setting is enforced:

  • Increased number of host pools with additional VMs
  • More storage required if profiles are separated
  • Varied user experiences due to differing configurations between desktop and remote apps
